ScanToExcel is built and maintained by a solo developer based in the EU. No team, no investors, no growth-at-all-costs mentality. I built this tool because document conversion shouldn't require expensive subscriptions, dark patterns, or giving up your data. ScanToExcel is my answer: an AI-powered converter that is private by design, fast by default, and honest about what it can and can't do.
Why I Built ScanToExcel
I needed to convert a bank statement to Excel. Simple enough, right? Every tool I found was plastered with ads, demanded a subscription for basic functionality, or had a privacy policy that essentially said "we can do whatever we want with your data." Some didn't even delete your files after processing. A few felt outright predatory — designed to confuse users into paying more than they should.
I'm a developer. I had access to AI models. So I built the tool I wished existed — one that processes your document, gives you the result, and immediately forgets it ever saw your file. No copies, no logs, no retention. Not after 30 days. Not after 24 hours. Immediately.
That was late 2025. Since then, ScanToExcel has processed tens of thousands of documents for users worldwide. I still develop on it every week, it's still just me, and the core promise hasn't changed: your files are processed in-memory and deleted the moment your download is ready.

What ScanToExcel Does
ScanToExcel converts six types of documents into structured, usable data: receipts, bank statements, invoices, credit card statements, paystubs and payslips, and images of tables. Upload a photo, scan, or PDF — choose your document type and output format — and the AI extracts every field into organized rows and columns.
Export to Excel, CSV, PDF, Word, JSON, or XML. Input formats include JPG, PNG, HEIC, HEIF, TIFF, WebP, and PDF — including multi-page PDFs. The AI handles documents in virtually any language and automatically detects currencies worldwide. The website itself is available in 8 languages: English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Dutch, Polish, and Portuguese.

Here's the honest truth: because I don't store any of your data, I have zero visibility into what works and what doesn't. I can't see your documents, I can't see the AI's output, and I can't replay a failed conversion. The only way I know something needs fixing is if you tell me.
